Produced from old vines with Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca grape varieties, it shows a beautiful ruby color with intense aromas of plum and cherry. This wine causes a real explosion of ripe fruit flavors in the palate: blackberry, strawberry, and black currant. Delicious!

2006 Dona Maria. Alentejo. Tempranillo/Castelao/Alicante/Syrah- Intense aromas of bramble and violets are complemented by dark, jammy fruit flavors of blackberry, cherry, and blueberry. Tremendous complexity, depth, and body make this a must have for everybody, everywhere.

Meet Estebe Salgado and Taste Spanish Wines

First Friday Tasting -all Estate Bottled Spanish Wines

Join Estebe Salgado of Tradewinds Specialty Imports as he pours 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 2009

Greetings!

We have a special treat for all our Spanish wine fans. Estebe Salgado, President of International Operations for Tradewinds Specialty Imports will be at the Market to pour some great boutique wines.

We'll have some great new Tempranillo, Cava and an interesting Verdejo. And because it is First Friday, there will be other great things to do along the mall.

More information on Estebe.
Born and raised in a beautiful city named San Sebastian, located in the northern cost of the Basque country, Estebe Salgado has been exposed to different challenges throughout his entire life. The first one leaving his hometown. He attended American University and was on their swim team with a scholarship.

Graduating with a B.S in Math, he started working in an industry, which has been his dad's and uncles' admiration in this world, wine. After working for a distribution company for several years, his passion for the industry made him start his entrepreneurial experience importing boutique Spanish wines to the US. A competitor by nature, Estebe is willing to take up this new challenge to the next level with both of his partners Christian Salvatori and Steuart Martens, and willing to convert Tradewinds into one of the most reputable import companies in the East
cost of the United States. Hope to see you this weekend at the market!

NV Cava DO Brut Rossiyol de Moragas, Fermi Bohigas Catalunya (Catalonia)
"Can Marciá" is the historical name of the estate, first mentioned in documents dating from 1300 but known to exist from at least 1290. With more than 600 years of grape-growing and winemaking, this estate is located in Catalunya, in the valley of the river Anoia near the village of Igualada. The Cava Dominacion de Origen (DO) is within the larger DO of Penedés. It is owned by the Bohigas family, Jordi Casanovas Bohigas being the winemaker together with Josep Casanovas Bohigas assisting. Setting them apart from many larger commercial bottlers of cava, the Bohigas family produces only wines made from their own grapes and vinifies their cavas in the tradition method derived from Champagne, with the second fermentation in the bottle. A unusually high degree of attention to both vineyards and cellars is required, and we are delighted to present them at very reasonable price s given the intensity of the labor involved.
The blend reflects tradition: 35% Macabeo, 35% Xarel-lo, 30% Parellada. Note the fine aromas, the small bubbles and the that the fruit, while prominent, finishes dry.

2006 Ribera del Duero DO, Mesoneros de Castilla, Bodegas Arroyos Burgos

Winemaking history goes back about 400 years, but it is only since 1979 that Bodegas Ismael Arroyos began to bottle its own wine. Ismael is now 72. He one of the founders of the DO and still active in the family business. Son Miguel Angel has taken over active winemaking duties, assisted by his brother Ramon. The historic 16th century wine caves hold both bottles and barrels, all 100% "Tinto de pais "(another name for Tempranillo). As is true with most Roble wines, this is aged 6 months in American oak and 6 months in bottle before release.

2008 Verdejo Rueda DO Mania, Bodegas Felix Lorenzo Cachazo Rueda
The wonderfully aromatic Verdeo grape hails from this small northern district in Spain. Straw-green color with aromas of stone fruit: quince & peach, as well as some exotic notes of pineapple, passion fruit. Elegant and viscous on the palate, with marked acidity that makes for an excellent partner for many foods and cheeses. Highly-esteemed: Guia Peñin 89 points; Revista Sobremesa: 90 points. Superb with roasted poultry and pork dishes.

Rioja Joven DOCa, Ladron de Guevara, Bodegas Valdelana La Rioja Alavesa

Another historic estate, in an historic village: the Valdelana fam ily, currently headed by Juan Jesus Valdelana, has farmed this land between the River Ebro and the Sierra Cantabria range since 1583. At 451 meters above seal level, it is situated at the entrance of the village of "Elciego," (el ciego=the blind man), named for a blind innkeeper revered for his humanity and hospitality. The Joven 2007 is a blend of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 5% Viura (a white grape!) fermented and aged entirely in tank. It's fresh fruit-forward flavor-- as well as its price-- makes it a great summer quaffer.

2007 Toro Roble DO, Munio,
Bodegas y Viñyedos Viñaguareña,Castile
Located in Toro's "golden mile," this wine endeavor is the result of a group of local businessmen who have a love of great wine and who have harnessed the best in state-of-the-art technology. 100% "Tinto de toro" (Tempranillo). Gravity-oriented winemaking, underground storage for corks, temperature/humidity control: they have done it all. And all of it on the banks of the Guareña River, a prime location for grape-growing. Entirely from grapes grown on the 25 acres of this estate, 100% Tempranillo aged 6 months in cask (70% French oak/30% American oak) and 6 months in bottle.

About Thorn-Clarke
Thorn-Clarke Wines was launched in 2002 as a result of the 37 year marriage between David and Cheryl Clarke (nee Thorn). The Thorn family have grown vines in the Barossa
since the 1870's and still proudly own and manage some of the oldest vineyards in the region.

The wine is another reward for geologist David Clarke and his family. The family has planted four diverse Barossa vineyards over the last 20 years, enabling them to blend wines grown from different terroirs which adds complexity and richness to the wine. "When we started out 20 years ago I knew from my geological research that the varied Barossa geology and soil types offered us a broad palate to work with. Then when we started making trial blends in the 1990s it became clear that
the vineyards complemented each other brilliantly and provided us with a new level of flavor complexity. We have blended to take advantage of these sub regional and micro climatic characteristics."

"Our philosophy is to over-deliver in terms of the quality we offer at each price level. Wine lovers remember wines which are stunning value and we work hard to ensure that whether people buy the Sandpiper range at $15 or the Shotfire range
at $23 they are drinking wines that are excellent value for money." -David Clarke

About the Vineyards
Outstanding parcels of 100% Barossa Valley fruit are selected from the Kabininge vineyard for these wines which then receive special oak maturation treatment in our Barossa cellars. The result is a rich and voluptuous Barossa Shiraz and an exciting Cuvée. Vinification techniques: crushing and de-stemming into open fermenters. Pumping
over twice daily to maximise color, tannin and flavor extraction. Cooling is used to ensure ferments remain in the 22-25°C range which will allow the wine to display
maximum fruit expression. Pressing then occurs approximately 7 days after crushing and the resulting wine is put into French and American oak.
"The key to good Malbec is being able to successfully ripen the fruit. Our St Kitts vineyard at the Northern end of the Barossa provides a fantastic environment to do that."
"The Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc fruit come from the old vine Kabininge Block near Krondorf on the Barossa Valley flore and they provide wonderful upfront berry fruits; the Malbec from the drier northern St Kitts vineyard balances the cool climate Angaston vineyard Petit Verdot which provides great depth of flavor
and intensity, while the Merlot, also from St Kitts, gives the palate a wonderful suppleness. The grainy tannins add to the rich mouth feel of the wine." -Sam Clarke
